Discovering Milos: From Sarakiniko’s Lunar Landscapes to Plaka’s Timeless Charm

Milos is an island that feels like stepping into a different world, and in the first part of my journey, I explore two of its most iconic locations: Sarakiniko and Plaka.

Sarakiniko

Sarakiniko is perhaps the most famous spot on Milos, and for good reason. Its striking white volcanic rock formations create a surreal, moon-like landscape that contrasts beautifully with the deep blue Aegean Sea. Walking through Sarakiniko feels like wandering on another planet, with the smooth, sun-bleached rocks stretching out as far as the eye can see. Whether you’re here to swim in its crystal-clear waters, spend hours cliff diving or simply take in the stunning views, Sarakiniko is a must-see when visiting Milos.

Plaka

After soaking in the beauty of Sarakiniko, we head to Plaka, the capital of Milos. Perched high on a hill, Plaka offers a glimpse into the island’s rich history and culture. The village is a maze of narrow, winding streets lined with traditional whitewashed houses and vibrant bougainvillea. From the top of Plaka, the panoramic views of the island and the surrounding sea are breathtaking, especially at sunset. It’s a place where time seems to slow down, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the charm and tranquility of Milos.
